AIR Vallauris Exhibition

During my residency in Vallauris, France, I created the following collection, including a dinner set, a breakfast set, as well as a few complemetary decorative pieces.

Exhibition: April 2024

Artist Statement:

I appreciate the everyday presence of functional ceramics—art that we pick up and put down multiple times a day, hold in our hands, set on our tables, and in which we share meals with both strangers and loved ones. I believe it is not something to just be enjoyed alone, but ought to be shared and appreciated with and through others.

In an effort to enhance the role that ceramics play in the relationships we make and nurture over shared meals, I have created several dishware sets that prompt reflection, discussion, and connection between those participating in the meal. The breakfast set focuses on self-reflection ahead of one’s day, while the dinner set is set up to prompt discussion on our past, present, and future, through the different courses. Lastly, the serving ware reflects various questions that have inspired me through developing this project.

Alongside the functional ware I have created two sets of “satellite bowls” that are an exploration of form and function, and represent the searching I have done behind and through my ceramic projects.
